“Try to learn to breathe deeply, really to taste food when you eat, and when you sleep really to sleep. Try as much as possible to be wholly alive with all your might, and when you laugh, laugh like hell. And when you get angry, get good and angry. Try to be alive. You will be dead soon enough.”― William Saroyan

“Daddy, could you puh-lease stop by Walmart tomorrow and pick me up a pitcher for my lemonade stand I want to have tomorrow?” Ariel begged last night.
“Maybe, but I really have to work tomorrow and I told you to think of those things while you were out with Olivia yesterday.”
She didn’t, of course. Because she is twelve.   Even after I had questioned if she had everything she needed, including a pitcher to put all of her lemonade in. (Damn, kids! Gotta love ’em…)
“Ariel, I’ll tell ya what,” I chimed in. “If you can do me a favor and watch Jackson tomorrow while I run some errands, I will grab you a pitcher for your lemonade.”
She agreed to that. So, today I left Jackson in her care while Jack went to Air Gas for oxygen for his tanks.  I was able to do the exciting tasks of going to the DMV (to obtain a new license because I lost mine at the Widespread Panic concert in April), go to the post office to mail off twenty glass pendants to the winning auctions on ebay, and grocery shop.  But the best part of that time out was that I had the opportunity to stop at Starbucks for an hour, drink a latte, and have some much desired, undisturbed “me-time”.  (Thank you, Ariel!)
I heart these lazy summer days…now more than ever before.

  1. Beautiful inspiring post.Thank you for liking my about.Have a wonderful week.jalal

  2. This quote is from William Saroyan, not Hemingway.

  3. I love the quote it’s repeated as a message over and over in yoga and it’s a nod to living presently and with awareness
